DONALD CAMPBELL'S BLUEBIRD K7
Donald Campbell is the only person to have set both the absolute world land and water speed records in the same year. In 1964 he set a land speed record of 403.10 mph on 17 July in the Bluebird CN7 at Lake Eyre in Australia. On 31 December of the same year he set a water speed record of 276.33 mph in the Bluebird K7 at Lake Dumbleyung in Western Australia. He died on 4 January 1967 during an attempt to raise the water speed record above 300 mph on Coniston Water in Cumbria, when Bluebird K7 crashed at a speed exceeding 300 mph.
