Donald Campbell remains the sole individual to claim both the absolute world land and water speed records within a single year. He recorded a land speed of 403.10 mph on 17 July 1964 at the controls of Bluebird CN7 on the dry lake bed at Lake Eyre, Australia. Later that year, on 31 December, he achieved a water speed of 276.33 mph in Bluebird K7 on Lake Dumbleyung in Western Australia. On 4 January 1967 he was killed on Coniston Water in Cumbria while attempting to push the water speed record past 300 mph, when Bluebird K7 crashed at a speed of more than 300 mph.
In a family defined by speed, father and son Malcolm and Donald Campbell turned the name Bluebird into a symbol of relentless ambition on land and water. This documentary traces their shared pursuit of records, the machines that carried them, and the lasting mark left by two generations who risked everything in the name of velocity.
