The Porsche 962-103, famously known as the “Holbert Racing Löwenbräu Special,” is widely acknowledged as the most accomplished and iconic 962 model.
Manufactured by Porsche AG in the spring of 1984, 962-103 was the third customer vehicle assembled at the Weissach racing department. Designed to participate in the IMSA GT Championship, the car was initially entrusted to Holbert Racing, an American team deeply associated with the German manufacturer. Adorned in the distinctive blue and white Löwenbräu livery and meticulously prepared for the impending racing season, 962-103 made its debut at the Charlotte Camel GT 500 on May 20, 1984.
Although it failed to complete the race in its first outing, 962-103 triumphed convincingly at its next event, the Camel Continental 6 Hours of Watkins Glen in July. Notably, the Holbert Racing Löwenbräu Special not only secured the first victory for a Porsche 962 but also established a new standard for IMSA GTP racing. Porsche reasserted its dominance in the racing scene.
