But it was in 1989, when the Powerboat World Championships officially moved to Key West, that the city became the epicenter of offshore racing, solidifying its reputation as the "Super Bowl of Offshore Racing." The November event, a crown jewel in the sport, lures in top teams from around the world, battling fierce winds and choppy seas, with speeds often topping 150 mph, pushing both the limits of the boats and the bravery of their drivers.
